This past Sunday, we were blessed with a profound and unforgettable message when Dr. GreGory called on our Bishop to deliver the sermon titled “The Sonogram of Christmas.” The depth of this message left our congregation both inspired and in awe, as Bishop Newman used powerful metaphors and vivid illustrations to unpack the divine mysteries surrounding the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ.
From the very beginning, Bishop Newman posed a thought-provoking question: "What was before creation?" He reminded us that Jesus was the firstborn of every creature, the very reason for creation’s existence. This foundational truth set the stage for a revelation-filled sermon that invited us to see Jesus’ life and purpose in a new light.
The First Sonogram:
The Word of God Bishop Newman explained that the first sonogram of Christ was the Word of God itself. Long before Jesus’ physical birth, the prophets wrote, “The Messiah is coming.” Their testimonies revealed glimpses of His divine nature and mission. Just like a sonogram provides an image of a developing child, the scriptures offered humanity a prophetic preview of the Savior who was to come.
Jesus Chose His Story
In a remarkable reflection, Bishop Newman highlighted the intentionality of Jesus’ earthly life. Jesus chose His mother, Mary, what He looked like, and even the very milk He nursed on. This divine choice underscores that Jesus' birth was far more than a miraculous event—it was the delivery of the greatest gift ever given to humanity.
Bishop reminded us that Christ is not merely a person but a place. As scripture declares, “We sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” This truth adds depth to our understanding of the gift of salvation and our position as believers in Him.
The Sonograms of Christ’s Journey
Throughout the sermon, Bishop Newman used stunning illustrations to drive home the message.
The first image was of a baby being developed in the cosmos, symbolizing Mary’s sonogram of Jesus.
The second was a sonogram of Jesus’ body in the tomb, lifeless after His crucifixion.
The third was an empty tomb, representing the first resurrected body received back into Heaven.
These images encapsulated the essence of Jesus’ journey—from His birth to His resurrection and beyond. Bishop explained that Jesus was the first to be “born again” out of death, conquering the grave and making way for a new creation.
When Did Heaven Have Christmas?
In a poignant moment, Bishop Newman asked the congregation, “When did Heaven have Christmas?” On the big screen appeared a surprising image—several of our church members. The audible reactions of the congregation filled the sanctuary as Bishop Newman revealed that we are Heaven’s sonogram.
Heaven had its Christmas when Christ conquered death, opening the way for the saints to be received in glory. We are the gift that God chose to give Himself. This profound truth challenged us to view ourselves as part of God’s eternal plan, crafted to complete His creation and bring Him joy.
A Call to Live Worthy
As the message came to a close, Pastor Dr. GreGory prayed over the congregation, encouraging us to walk worthy of such a revelation. He reminded us that if we are not yet good ground for this message, by the grace of God, we still have time to repent and let the truth take root in our hearts. God wants to restore everything we’ve been through.
Bishop sermon left us with a resounding message: We are the sonogram of Christmas. Christ’s life, death, and resurrection were not just a gift to us—they were the means by which we became a gift to God. This Christmas, let us live as reflections of that truth, walking in the worthiness of the gift we’ve been entrusted with.
May we embrace our role as Heaven’s sonogram and live as a light to the world, pointing others to the Savior whose birth we celebrate. Merry Christmas!
